What are your names and where are you from/based?
We’re Giorgia Lupo and Davide Conti, the creatives behind NANAJUICE.
We’re both from Rome, Italy, but we’ve spent the last few years moving between cities. We first met while working in Ibiza, and after being abroad for a long time, we’ve now come back to Rome, at least, for now!
You describe Nana Juice as being born from instinct, tension, and obsession. How did you both connect over those energies?
NANAJUICE was born very spontaneously – it just happened inside us.
When we started, we were living in shared houses, with nothing but a small room and the floor where we made our first pieces.
It came from a need to express ourselves, not from a plan.
we don’t have any traditional education in jewelry, everything grew through instinct, curiosity, and play.
It still feels like something guided by the child inside us, and we’re very protective of that feeling.
Was jewelry always your medium, or did it emerge from something else?
Jewelry came to us unexpectedly.
We’ve both always been very creative, but in completely different ways, like drawing, building, experimenting.
When NANAJUICE started, it naturally became about jewelry and since then, it’s been our main language , but we’d like to experiment more for sure, exploring how that same energy and vision can exist in other forms.
You say each piece is a fragment of emotion, “marked by the beauty of imperfection.” What emotions live in your work?
There’s a lot of contrast in our pieces, our work often comes from moments when we feel anxiety, love, frustration, but also from more playful or provocative feelings.
We’re two very different people, and that contrast always finds its way into what we make, so that each piece carries that duality.
And because everything is handmade, the imperfections become part of the story, they mirror the way real life feels: uneven, but honest.
You mention the energy of punk, surrealism, and nightlife. What part of that world lives in your practice?
We feel close to many worlds, punk, surrealism, even hip-hop, all different, but all born from instinct and emotion.
punk for example, it’s the idea that even if you don’t say things the “right” or “perfect” way, what truly matters is what you have to say.
Nightlife also shaped us: that escape, that intensity, that moment when you can become someone else.
It’s chaotic, beautiful, and free, just like the way we create.
And in the end, everything we love , somehow finds its way into our ideas and the pieces we make.
Your pieces contain so many intricacies, small marks, textures, fragments. Have you both always been drawn to detail?
Yes, but not in a technical way.
We’ve always been drawn to what feels alive, the marks, the irregularities, the things that make a piece unique.
It’s less about perfection and more about character.
We love when an object carries traces of time and touch, when it looks like it’s been somewhere before.
Those details are what make it emotional, they turn metal into something human, especially in a world that is going so minimal.
Are there recurring details or symbols that hold personal meaning for you, something only you might notice?
It really goes in phases, like when a word or an image gets stuck in your head and becomes contagious.
We go through small obsessions that slowly shape what we make.
Lately, we’ve been drawn to horses , they keep reappearing in different forms.
And the number 7 has always been a symbol for us, it’s everywhere in the universe, a number that carries its own mystery and balance.
